and the survey says...

"You Are Gilbert From 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?'
You are very giving and self-sacrificing. You're always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends. However, this generous nature often robs you of fulfilling your needs and desires, and may cause you to become resentful. Find a way to balance your kindness with your independence."

chocolate is good

you know those chocolate coins? the ones with the gold foil wrappers that are real tight against the chocolate... and you have to pry the foil off the chocolate... and you almost always end up with chocolate under your fingernails in the process. yeah, i'm glad not all chocolates & candies are like that.

sign of the day

last week, there were these absolutely huge snowflakes falling. they were beautiful. surreal. by the time april & i grabbed our stuff to go take pictures, they had stopped falling.

today, we heard there was a fire nearby. we decided to see how close we could get. by the time we got outside, we couldn't find a fire anywhere.

i did, however, finally take a photo of this sign.

a box of a dozen things...

suppose you were meeting someone for the first time. and suppose you couldn't simply talk to them & tell them about yourself... but rather, you gave them a box filled with 12 things that would give them some insight into who you are. what would you put in your box? i think mine would have...

1: my knee-high argyle socks. one is pink, green, brown & orange. the other is brown, blue, russet & orange.

2: a hand-made journal. blank.

3: my quote book, filled with sayings & quotes that i've collected since high school.

4: my map of the united states, covered with post-it note arrows of all the places i plan to visit someday.

5: photographs of sunsets & storm clouds.

6: "spilling open" by sabrina ward harrison.

7: a crossword puzzle.

8: my Bible, bookmarked at Psalm 62:5-8

9: a photograph of me & my mother

10: an edwardo's pizza menu

11: my business card

12: the movie "benny & joon"

now it's your turn...

following the crowd

so a couple of folks sent me these quizzes that they had made. 10 questions about themselves, you may have seen them before. so i made one myself. because it humored me. and i tried to come up with things that a lot of people may not know. not to make them feel stupid, but because that way they learn something about me. and that's always fun, right? :)

the past few days

so my computer's been out of commission the past couple of days. there's been a bit of remodeling going on at my house, and so my entire room was re-arranged to avoid potential disaster. that part of the remodeling is done now. i'll be putting everything back over the next couple of days.

it's snowing. probably the last snow of the winter. we're only supposed to get an inch... just enough for the birds to leave tracks in. that's the way it should be.

our crocuses are blooming. the tulips, daffodils & hyacinths are peaking out of the ground.

this weekend was a busy weekend at the bird feeder. funny, we didn't get many birds during most of the winter... now that it's getting nicer, the birds are coming around more. a chickadee or two, some nut hatchers and plenty o'finches.

i've got an idea for st. patty's goodies. i'll post a picture wednesday. it should be fun & yummy. :)

i want to make a dream journal. how often do i dream delicious dreams... just to lose them before i've gotten dressed for work. i want somewhere to write them all down. so when i think "haven't i dreamed this before?" i can look back and see. and be humored by my unconscious thoughts.

recipe tree

today i received a sign that i'm getting old. i was totally stoked when i saw i got mail today from my friend malissa. inside was a note of well wishes, and an invitation to be part of a recipe tree. sort of a chain letter, but with recipes and no silly tales of bad luck befalling those who break the chain. personally, i think this sounds like fun. i like to cook & bake. and recipes are a good place to start when one wants to bake or cook something. however, when i put on my teenage-eyes (which i refuse to pack away), i see myself aging rapidly as i search for a great recipe to send to the top person on the list. however, with my adult-eyes, i deny that growing older equals growing old. and so i shall find my favorite recipe & send it along with a smile. and come up with 6 friends who are recipe-sending folks as well. and figure out which recipe is my favorite... taco dip? or microwave caramel corn? or double fudge pocket cookies? or lemon melt-aways? or veggie pizza? or...

if i had more time, i would...

- make more journals
- write more letters
- take more roadtrips
- visit mel & dan more often
- take more chances on the sewing machine
- read more books
- take more photos
- paint
- explore new craftiness
- keep my room at least sort of clean :)
- bake more
- make st. patty's day cards for my friends
- learn to quilt

i want to find time for these things in the time that i have now. no more waiting until "more time" comes. i must do these things now. what good is a list if it doesn't spur some action?
